Leaders are people who are going somewhere, and taking other people with them. If you are that, this course will be of interest to you.
Leaders of leaders are people whose gift and role is to help people who are going somewhere get there, together! If you are that, this course is for you.
Mind you, most people are leaders in some sense; parents lead a family, neighbours may informally lead their friends, as well as leadership being in the work and church contexts. Perhaps leadership is more common than we think?
If this is the case, leading leaders is a life skill many would benefit from.
Who isn’t this course for? Task-orientated technocrats (unless they are have seen the light and want to grow), and those who have no interest in other people and do not seen others as the key to the future.
In the coming months we'll be running a series of short features aimed to help you reflect upon your own leaderships skills, and those of your fellow leaders.
So in this introduction, let's set the scene.
"In Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel. Therefore I urge you to imitate me."I Corinthians 4:15-16.
It is an uncomfortable fact that the people you lead will become like you; they will have your heart, your style, your strengths and your weaknesses. They will imitate you.
If you can’t accept the responsibility of this, you should not be a leader. This is the way God has ordained the dynamics of human life and society.
This fact will cause you to fall to your knees and cry “God help me!”, and that is good. You are called to be like Jesus, the best model of leadership the world has seen. This will take a revolution in your spirit.
It's more than a job, it’s a calling. For those who humble themselves there is a certainty that you will become more and more like Jesus, and people will love it. They will sense a different sort of motivation, one that has nothing to do with power, and everything to do with service and fatherhood in the gospel.
All over the world people are looking to be led into life, and away from hell. A leader is Gods person to make that happen.
It is a great calling, a great privileged.
But it begins with you - what are you like? What is your character? What really motivates you?
Don’t worry- Jesus is in the business of character. If he has appointed you, he will equip you.
And your part? Utterly reject self-dependence and open wide your heart to the Holy Spirit- an amazing journey is about to begin!
