2008 Urban Saints One-day Training Conferences
Leading young people into the presence of God
A one-day training conference for youth and children’s leaders seeking a renewed spiritual direction for their groups...and themselves.

Youth and children’s work has largely become focused on programmes. We provide a constant stream of entertainment and activities in order to engage young people and hold their attention. But there is a cost. That deep sense of spiritual connection has sometimes been lost.
Many people are finding a surprising new depth to their lives and ministry by rediscovering contemplative practices from the past. Providing the perfect balance to our exhausting programmes, this approach helps restore the peace and presence of God to the centre of our groups, our own lives and all that we do.
During the day we will:
- Give an overview of the different aspects of contemplative practice and help you discover how it could transform your group.
- Show you ways to unlock young people’s spirituality and help them recognise how God is working in their lives.
- Provide opportunities for you to try out a range of contemplative and experiential exercises that can help young people to connect with God.
- Help to re-focus your ministry and empower you to move from being programme-centred to people-centred, bringing a renewed spirituality and the presence of God back into the heart of your group.
Information
- These events are open to anyone aged 16 or over who works with any age group from 8 upwards.
- Registered Energize groups receive three free places as part of their subscription, and thereafter the cost is £10 per person. All other leaders pay £15. The fee includes light refreshments throughout the day and a comprehensive workbook.
- Each 2008 training conference will run from 10:00 am to 3:45 pm.
- Our venues are carefully chosen churches with good conference facilities, easy access from major routes and parking on-site or very close by. Venue details will be sent with each booking confirmation.
- A wide range of books, videos and other resources for youth and children’s leaders will be on sale at each venue, many at heavily discounted prices.
- Refreshments will be provided free throughout the day, but you will need to bring a packed lunch.

Guest Speaker
Jenny Baker is a freelance writer and trainer with a background in youth work and teaching. A member of Grace, an alternative worship community at St Mary’s church in Ealing, she enjoys creating experiential spaces where people can connect with God.
She has written a number of books, including Tune In, Chill Out – using contemplative prayer in youth work. She is a founder of Sophia, the network for women in youth ministry. Jenny loves swimming, cycling and running and has done several triathlons. |

How to book
For 2008 we are able to take postal or email bookings (Energize and Energize Plus groups only).
Postal Bookings – non-Energize groups may only book by post
Please click HERE to download a Booking Form in PDF format (50 kb) which you will need to complete and post back to Urban Saints with the correct fees (if applicable). The form has been redesigned for 2008 to include space for up to six leaders from the same group.
Email bookings – Energize and Energize Plus groups only
Leaders and Helpers in Energize and Energize Plus groups may book individually or as a team by email. Please include the following information in your email:
1. Full name of Energize/Energize Plus group.
2. Full names of all those you are booking in, including their ages if under 18.
3. Training Conference venue you will attending in 2008.
4. Contact name, address, telephone number and email address of one of the leaders attending to whom all correspondence, maps etc. will be sent. (Note: If you have already booked other leaders from your team into this 2008 Conference you may give us the same contact contact as in any previous booking.)

Please remember that three free places have been allocated to your group; after this the cost is £10 per leader. Any leaders paying £10 may pay on the day. We will keep track of how many book from your team and remind you in the final instructions letter if fees are due from your team at the event.
