Glasgow Training Conference - March 28th 2009 


For 2009 we are running four sessions during our One-day Training Conferences…

Faith Development
In this session we will explore some of the latest research into how young people develop spiritually and how we can best nurture and encourage them in their faith journeys.

Effective Teaching
Looking at recent research from the teaching and learning professions, together with helpful advice from expert Christian practitioners, we will explore what a balanced, effective teaching programme should look like.

The Impact of Technology
An overview showing what we ought to know about the effect some of the latest technology is having on young people. There will also be an opportunity to learn about the huge range of useful web-based resources from Urban Saints.

Managing Discipline
For our final session we will divide you into teams for an interactive team challenge! Using video clips from school classrooms, problems to solve and down-to-earth advice from experienced school teachers and youth leaders we will help you learn how to manage young people more effectively and deal with behavioural problems with greater confidence.

Information about the Training Conferences 

  • These training conferences are suitable for anyone aged 16 or over who works with any age group from 8 upwards.

  • Registered Energize/Energize Plus groups receive three free places as part of their subscription, and thereafter the cost is £10 per person. All other leaders pay £15. The fee includes light refreshments throughout the day (except lunch) and a comprehensive workbook.

  • Each 2009 training conference will run from 10:00 am to 3:45 pm.

  • Our venues are carefully chosen churches with good conference facilities, easy access from major routes and parking on-site or very close by. Venue details will be sent with each booking confirmation.

  • A wide range of books, videos and other resources for youth and children's leaders will be on sale at each venue, many at heavily discounted prices.

  • Refreshments will be provided free throughout the day, but you will need to bring a packed lunch.

How to book places at a Training Conference

Book by email or telephone

Email and telephone bookings are accepted from individuals or teams. Please include all of the following information in your email, and be ready to provide it if booking by ‘phone:

  1. State that it is a 2009 Training Conference you wish to book for, the venue and date.


  2. State whether or not you are from a registered Energize/Energize Plus group.

  3. If you are from a registered Energize/Energize Plus group give the full name of your group.

  4. If you are not from a registered Energize/Energize Plus group give the name of your church/organisation/youth group.

  5. Give the full name(s) of all those you are booking in, including their ages if under 18.

  6. Give the contact name, address, telephone number and email address of one of the leaders attending to whom all correspondence, maps etc. will be sent. (Note: If you have already booked other leaders from your team into this 2009 Conference you may give us the same contact as in any previous booking.)

For telephone bookings please call our Support Centre on  01582 589850 and ask to speak to the Volunteer Support department.

  • We will acknowledge your booking by letter.

  • Fees may be paid at the event by cash, cheque or credit/debit card.

  • For registered Energize/Energize Plus groups: Three free places have been allocated to your group; after this the cost is £10 per leader. Any leaders paying £10 may pay on the day. We will keep track of how many book from your team and remind you in the final instructions letter if fees are due from your team at the event.

Please click HERE to download a Booking Form in PDF format (86 kb) which you will need to complete and post back to Urban Saints with the correct fees (if applicable). The form includes space for up to six leaders to book from the same group.

Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering

At the venues marked with an asterisk in the list of dates above we are also offering a 6-hour course leading to the Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering. This course costs £45.00 and is recommended for volunteers working with the following organisations:


 

The course will be led by Sharon Prior. Sharon qualified as a Senior Medical Microbiologist in the 1980s and is a Freelance National Trainer with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health. She has been running food hygiene courses for churches and Christian Organisations since 1992.

The course will be fun and interactive and during the day Sharon will be sharing her experiences of catering on Urban Saints and Scripture Union holidays. A short multiple choice test will be given at the end of the day and you will be awarded the Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering on successful completion of the course.

Information about the Level 2 Food Safety course

  • The course is suitable for anyone aged 16 or over who is involved in cooking or serving food on a Christian holiday or other event.

  • The course fee of £45.00 is payable on booking and includes all course materials and refreshments throughout the day (except lunch). The fee will be refunded if cancelling 8 weeks or more before an event, but is non-refundable if cancellation occurs within 8 weeks of an event as we will have registered your attendance with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.

  • The course will start at 10:00 am and will finish by 5:00 pm at the latest.

  • Our venues are carefully chosen churches with good conference facilities, easy access from major routes and parking on-site or very close by. Venue details will be sent with each booking confirmation.

  • Refreshments will be provided free throughout the day, but you will need to bring a packed lunch.
